After working in (& commuting to) London for over two months, here’s a few things I’ve noticed:
- Commuting is a battleground where the sleep deprived go to war twice a day
- There’s no such things as a stroll, only a (very) brisk walk
- Commuters are a silent, passive aggressive army of avid newspaper readers
- When it comes to catching the tube, compassion for the common man goes out the window – it’s squeeze on or miss out
- Everyone seems to have a determination and purpose in where they’re going – those that don’t know the protocols & block escalator fast lanes are the common enemy
- The Boris Bike scheme works quite well
- Taxis are sacred sanctuaries of travelling bliss, especially if someone else is paying
- A decent bus service does exist on a Sunday
- The reason the tube network is so well used is testament to its efficiency, reliability & coverage
- Trying to get on the Northern line at London Bridge in the morning rush hour is a no-no
