Returning from Tribal Travels

All hands on deck at John Obey Beach

I’m back from an amazing adventure in Sierra Leone as part of the new TribeWanted project. I got to spend two weeks with some amazing people, help out constructing a solar tower, lay an earth bag, play some beach football, teach a physics lesson, visit a local school and learn some of the local Krio language. It’s been a culture shock coming back, I really enjoyed the slower pace of African life.

Nothing beats relaxing on a beach in a hammock.

Weekly updates from John Obey Beach are being featured on the Telegraph’s Travel website as part of a blog entitled ‘Going Native’. Each week Ben Keene (founder of TribeWanted) discusses the progress of the project and then one of the current tribe members shares their experiences of Sierra Leone and tribe life. Ben asked me to write this week’s tribe member account, you can read it (and find links to the other entries) here.

You can follow the latest developments with the TribeWanted project on the project Facebook page. Also my fellow tribe member, Susan Braun, is a freelance photographer and took some incredible pictures while we were in Sierra Leone, check out her blog and website.
